National Board of Trial Advocacy

Mr. Barnum has successfully achieved Board Certification as a civil trial specialist through the National Board of Trial Advocacy. This is a specialization also recognized by the State Bar of California. Mr. Barnum joins a growing number of trial attorneys who have illustrated their commitment to bettering the legal profession by successfully completing a challenging application process and providing the consumer of legal services with an objective measure by which to choose qualified and experienced legal counsel.

Founded in 1977, the NBTA filled a substantial void in the legal profession by creating the first attorney certification program. The elaborate screening of credentials that all NBTA board certified attorneys must successfully complete includes; documentation of trial experience, judicial and peer references, documentation of participation in continuing legal education, evaluation of legal writing skills, report of all disciplinary matters brought before any official body, either public or confidential, for scrutiny by the NBTA Standards Committee, and the completion of a day long written examination. NBTA members maintain active trial practices and are required to report their disciplinary status annually. Every five years members are required to apply for recertification to insure their continued commitment to their designated specialty.
